“The first thing to do is fall in love with your work.” Proverb
The structure of a book provides an endless number of possibilities for visual art! I have been making artist books since 1981, learning about books, art, and life as I go. My book, Chisholm Hours, is featured in Artists and Their Books/Books and Their Artists published in 2018 by the Getty Research Institute. I will be showing my latest version of Chisholm Hours on the 2019 Mid-City Studio Tour.
In addition to my studio work, I am the Curator Emerita at the Long Beach Museum of Art, and I teach Artist Books and Paper making at California State University Long Beach. In the summer of 2018 I worked on Chapter Six of my ongoing series The Walking Fools with a grant from CSULB. In addition to that award, I received a City of Los Angeles Fellowship (C.O.L.A. grant), and a Library Fellows award from the National Museum of Women in the Arts, six years of California Arts Council Artist in Residence grants, and residencies at the Visual Studies Workshop, the Women’s Studio Workshop, and Dorland Mountain Colony.
My artist books are included in numerous collections including the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Getty Center, and the National Museum of Women in the Arts in D.C.
